Order of Canada honours three York U community members

Three members of the York University community have been appointed to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest honours, by the Governor General of Canada.

The York-affiliated recipients are among the 83 new appointments to the Order of Canada announced by Governor General Mary Simon on June 27.

The Order of Canada is one of the country’s highest civilian honours, recognizing individuals whose service shapes Canadian society.

Companion

John Manley, committee member, honorary degree recipient
Manley, a long-time member of the Schulich School of Business Dean’s Global Council and a 2016 honorary doctor of laws recipient, was promoted to Companion of the Order of Canada after being named an Officer in 2009. During a 16-year tenure in Parliament, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, as well as Minister of Industry, Foreign Affairs and Finance. Manley has also chaired the boards of several major Canadian companies and led a national business association. He was appointed in recognition of how he has “bridged private, public and not-for-profit sectors, promoting diversity and inclusiveness in leadership while engaging on matters of public policy.”
